Summer Reading - The Lemonade War by Jacqueline Davies

Summer Book Recommendation

The Lemonade War by Jacqueline Davies
Grade: Upper Elementary

This is the story of a brother and sister who are normally loving siblings with the occasionally difficulty.  But when Jessie jumps a grade in school Evan, her brother, is distraught.  He doesn't deal well with being in the same grade as his little sister, and it becomes a stressful time for the two of them.

The Lemonade War also illustrates the many aspects of selling your wares.  Jessie is a whiz at math and Evan is very outgoing.  He recognizes the need to be a sales person and not just a robot collecting payment.  Together they are a wonderful pair.   This book does a delightful job of revealing the many sides of owning your own company, and it tells an amusing tale while teaching a few lessons at the same time.

I didn't want to stop reading it and my son, who is 10 years old, had the same experience.

If you don't read this over the summer and would rather use it to teach during the school year, here is the link to a study guide with pre-reading questions, vocabulary and review questions.
