Convert Photos to Coloring Pages

Today I am going to show you how to use a free online website to create personalized coloring pages.  You can take any photo and change it to a pale black and white image that your children can color.  I will walk you through the process today and I am sure that if you send this page to your children's email address they will begin making their own.

Let's get started.  Go to pixlr.com

Click on the pixlr editor button in the top bar.

Choose the photo you'd like to use.

In the top bar click on the adjustment button and then choose desaturate.

In the right hand bar right-click on the background layer in the Layer window on the right-hand side. Select duplicate layer from the menu that appears.

Return to the top bar and open the adjustment menu again, this time selecting invert from the list of options.

Return to the layers window on the right side of the window and click on the small square opposite direction arrow button in the bottom left corner of the layers box.  A drop down window will appear, choose add.

Return to the top button bar, choose filter and then Gaussian blur.  Use the slide bar to choose the blur level.

Return to the layers box in the bar on the right side.  Right click the background and then choose merge down.

One final step is needed.  Return to the top bar and choose the adjustment button and then choose the levels option.  A slide bar will appear and you can choose what looks best to you.  There is no right or wrong.  If you want bold lines you can slide the bar to create them.  The process is finished.

Isn't that fun?  Here is a picture of my daughter that is ready to color with crayons, markers, or paint.

Let the creative juices roll!
